How the free child care works

How it works

After applying through the governmentís website you receive a confirmation code directly from HMRC.
This is sent to your new Gateway Account.
This code is gold dust.
The code is what letís your childcare provider allow you access to the care packages benefiting from this fantastic subsidy and upto 1140 hours per year of free childcare!

You tell your childcare provider (hopefully us) your code and they will validate this with the local authority.
Once validated, your child gets access to even more quality childcare fun and you make savings.

Eligibility Rules for free child care


Unlike the 15 hours of free childcare the government pays for
the 1140 hours of free childcare does have some criteria you and your partner (if you have one) have to meet
Ė but honestly it boils down to you both being in work and both earning less than £100k each! So most people are going to be eligible.
Itís even available to the self employed as well!

The website



gives all the rules for all the schemes
and helps you choose which one is best for you.

But the rules as we understand them are (but please check the official website as things change quickly):

You should be eligible if all of the following apply:

Your child:

Is under 12, or 17 (if theyíre registered as having a disability)

Usually lives with you.

You (and your partner, if you have one):

Are 16 and over

Live or work in the UK

Are employed or self-employed

Are over 21 and earn on average at least 16 hours at mininimum wage a week, unless in your first year of self-employment (Different rates apply if youíre under 21 or an apprentice)

earn less than £100,000 a year each

You may also be eligible if you have a partner and one of you gets any of the following benefits:

Carers Allowance

Employment and Support Allowance

Incapacity Benefit

Severe Disablement Benefit
